I am working for ensuring fairer labour migration through policy advocacy, designing and formation of local Grievance Management system and awareness rising at community level for prosecution of Migration Law to establish migrant rights.

 

Other than having a high profile of expertise in lobbying in protecting the rights of the migrant workers, in my 20 years of professional life I have developed multi-sectoral excellence & expertise in the fields of; action research, policy review, policy advocacy and field intervention in different areas including migrant workers’ rights, women's rights, ethnic community and marginalized peoples' rights and so on.

For the last twelve years I have fully concentrated and engaged my knowledge and expertise in promoting safe migration and safe remittance management at grassroots level as well in reducing vulnerability of migrant workers through policy advocacy. I am experienced to managing different project included dissemination of Safe Migration Information at grassroots, awareness campaigning activities to aware community people and improve the knowledge on safe migration. I am also engaged to developing partnership with local level CBO/NGO’s and Government of Bangladesh for successful project implementation and supervision.

Capacity building/strengthening:  I am excellent in designing and implementing capacity strengthening plan as trainer, facilitator and moderator. One of the major tasks of my profession to building capacity and develop safe migration knowledge for different stakeholders at community level, such as-local CBO/NGO’s, potential, departing and returnee migrants, left behind families also migrants service providers including Bank, financial institution, Govt. Officials related to safe migration process, Migration Act 2013, different conventions on migration .

 

Awareness campaigning and policy advocacy: I contributed in a number of national and international leadership roles and I was involved directly for mobilizing public and government opinion for policy changes issues in connection with my professional arena in migrants’ workers rights such as:

 

  • Withdrawal of Pay Cash Exclusivity Clause, Mandatory Bank Accounts for Migrants Workers
  • Incorporation of Migrants in Bangladesh’s 6th five-year plan
  • Rehabilitation issues of returnees from Libya
  • Ratification of 1990 UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and their Families
  • Institutional and regulatory reforms of Remittance management.
  • Prosecution of the Migration Law 2013
  • Labour attaché s role in protection of female migrant workers 

Under my leadership First Ever National grand program Shonar Manush Shommanona and Remittance Utshob 2009, 2011 (Golden Migrants Award and Remittance Festival) organized at Dhaka central points.  At that programme the Successful Migrant Workers, Best Migrants Service Providers and best remittance Utilizer migrant’s family members were awarded and recognized by Honorable Minister of Finance Ministry, Expatriates, Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry of Government of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank

I am also playing a role as a Migration analyst on national Print and electronic media with focused on migrant’s rights issues and advocating for ensuring their rights by using the media.

 

Module Development/Video module: I have an expertise in developing different training modules, manuals, poster, booklet, IEC and BCC materials, documentary, music video on safe migration issues. Some of the material and modules that were developed under my leadership are:

  • Pre-decision and Pre-departure and country specific training Module for potential and departing migrants
  • Inward remittance management, develop video training kit to better services for migrants
  • Health and Life Skill training for female migrants
  • Volunteer Training Module etc.
  • Gender training Module

Some publication:

  1. Co-author of Yearly Migration Trends Analytical Report 2012, 2015 published by RMMRU, University of Dhaka
  2. Published a directory on “women rights based published material” with YUKTA (a publishing house)
  3. Designed and develop (gender training material) and handouts for the program target group, reviewed publication materials of program in view of gender.
  4. Articles on women empowerment published in fortnightly magazine ‘Pronodona’ and ‘Prokriti’

I have achieved my Master in Zoology (Entomology) from University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, a cultural Activist and one of the Director of SWANAN Paribar Foundation.
